The tragic loss of Officer Jason Ellis recently has left our community, the Commonwealth and the nation grieving for this outstanding member of the Bardstown Police Department, who was passionate about his work and the people he protected.
As a seven-year member of the police force, Officer Ellis was well known to all of us. He was a dedicated public servant, a devoted family man and a wonderful resident. Without a doubt, the passing of this fine, brave man is a profound loss for all of us.

I grew up in Tornado Alley. Tornadoes were more of an event I enjoyed than a threat I feared, so invincible did I think I was as a child and teenager.
As we gathered in the Shively's storm shelter with other neighbors, I rather enjoyed the social gathering and naively hoped the twister would somehow be bad enough to cancel school but not destructive enough to hurt anyone.
Questions of why, an inevitable response to suffering, weren't in my purview, at least not then.

City and EMS officials have denied they are responsible for a local woman’s death, as her husband’s attorney has alleged.
Lebanon attorney Jim Avritt Jr. filed a complaint on behalf of Thomas Ray Shirrell in Taylor Circuit Court on Dec. 29, 2011. City of Campbellsville and the emergency medical service, formerly known as Campbellsville/Taylor County Rescue, are listed as the defendants. The entity is now Campbellsville/Taylor County EMS.

A Columbia woman’s estate has filed suit against a local nursing home, alleging it is responsible for her death.
In response, the nursing home has asked that the complaint be arbitrated, not taken before a judge or jury to decide.
Lexington attorney Lisa E. Circeo filed a complaint on behalf of Dorothy Lowe and Lisa Anderson, as co-executrixes of Margaret S. Gumm’s estate, in Taylor Circuit Court on Jan. 31.

Some of the customers I sell to, I get to be friends with. The other day, I called on one that had just gotten out of the hospital.
I sat a spell while he told me about his ordeal in the hospital and his brush with death. I thought it was worth repeating. It reminded me that prayer is the greatest healer and lives can be changed with it. I hope I can do this story justice, as I’m writing from my memory alone.
I was surprised at how well he was able to put his thoughts and feelings into words so soon after that kind of ordeal.
