Work to draft the county’s new five-year solid waste management plan is under way.
Magistrates say the document will require lots of work and several meetings of the Taylor County Fiscal Court’s Sanitation and Environment Committee.
The Committee met on Monday night to discuss how the document will be prepared and the county taking over operation of the Campbellsville Recycling Center.

The divide between Taylor County Fiscal Court and members of the local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is likely greater now than ever before. And, frankly, we understand why.
In December, magistrates voted to revive the defunct Animal Control Board, inviting two SPCA members to join. This agreement was spurred by the allegations of abuse at Taylor County Animal Shelter. Those allegations have since been proven false following a state investigation.

Magistrates have entered into an agreement to pay off the EDA’s debt, but the decision didn’t come without reservations.
They first gave their stamp of approval to the EDA debt plan at their meeting last month. However, at last week’s meeting, magistrates were asked to approve the plan in the form of an interlocal agreement that spells out the details.

When I first moved to Campbellsville in 1980, and during the next three decades, the city of Campbellsville had some of the most reasonable gasoline prices one could find in Kentucky. Compared to the national average price, our gas was always at least 15 to 20 cents per gallon cheaper. What has happened in the last couple of years?
Now, we have some of the most expensive gasoline prices in Kentucky, and in this region of the country. On several occasions recently, our gasoline prices have even exceeded the national average price per gallon.

Emergency weather alerts could soon be more accurate.
With the city’s contract with One Call Now set to expire in just two weeks, Ronnie Dooley, assistant E-911 coordinator and Taylor County Emergency Management public information coordinator, has suggested the city switch to a new service — CodeRED.
Dooley and CodeRED representative Kurt Steier attended Tuesday night’s Campbellsville City Council meeting to discuss the service.
The city contracted with One Call Now four years ago at a cost of $25,000, Dooley said.

The city will pay $8,900 a month for land that could be a future home to a sports complex and the Taylor County Fair.
Campbellsville City Council met in special session Monday night to approve a resolution for financing the land purchase.
During a recent joint meeting with Taylor County Fiscal Court, Council members voted for the city to purchase 175 acres from Sue Dowell for $1.3 million. The land is located near Heartland Commerce and Technology Park off KY 55. Following further negotiations with Dowell, the total acreage later grew to 180 acres.
