Jeff Kidder knew there would be growing pains as he came to guide the Taylor County High School boys’ basketball team from many years as a junior college and NCAA Division 1 assistant.
“My biggest adjustment to high school coaching was the tempo and the pace of the games,” Kidder admitted after his Cardinals’ season-ending loss to North Hardin in the Fifth Region Tournament.

Tim Davis was excited that his team went from one win to 13 triumphs, but also realizes his Campbellsville High boys’ basketball Eagles still have their work cut out to compete at the top of the Fifth Region.
“I was pleasantly surprised on how well our young team responded and the improvement and progress that they made during the year,” Davis told me recently. “Going into the season we were hoping to win 7-8 games so doubling our original goal was fantastic.

For the first time since 2003, the girls’ and boys’ have repeat champions.
Marion County won its fourth title and eighth overall with an 82-60 triumph over LaRue County on Tuesday night at Green County. Three days earlier, John Hardin bested North Hardin 64-51 for its second crown and third overall at Hart County.
John Hardin’s toughest foe was probably first-round opponent Bardstown. After a 68-64 squeaker over the Tigers, the Bulldogs bested LaRue County 74-59 in the semi-finals before conquering the rival Trojans for the title.

It’s so easy to sit at home with an HD television and watch college basketball every night. That has really hurt the crowds at high school games and it was even more evident at last week’s Fifth Region Boys’ (Hart County) and Girls’ (Green County) Tournaments.
However, the atmosphere is still fantastic and making regional play still has a certain “air” about it.
It’s also a time for former players and coaches to congregate and reminisce about former teams, games and tourneys.
