In the moment and the aftermath of the most horrific tragedy involving innocent children and their teachers last week in Connecticut, my heart is saddened, as I am sure our community members’ hearts are. The Adanta Group Community Mental Health Center offers our deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims and the entire community of Newtown, Conn.

Citizen appreciates Christmas program
I would be remiss if I didn’t take the time to say a big thank you to Campbellsville University for the absolutely wonderful evening at Ransdell Chapel Nov. 30.
This performance of “Christmas Tapestry” by the students and the faculty was comparable to any performance or show one would see in any large city.

Education in Kentucky needs help from legislators
On Jan. 2, 2013, the Taylor County school district will experience federal budget cuts of 8 percent or more unless Congress intervenes.
These budget cuts will be the result of the Budget Control Act of 2011, which mandates reductions in education funding, as well as funding for almost every federal program. The overall impact will be $1.2 trillion over the next 10 years. For school districts across the nation it will mean more than a $4 billion cut in Fiscal Year 2013.

Always spare the time for a friend’s request
I dislike such things as plastic flowers and television evangelists. What I do like are old people who sat in front of country stores dozing and telling good stories, dogs, and Vienna sausages eaten directly from a can on a riverbank.
Hubert was a customer of mine that ran a country store for more years than I like to think about. Hubert was a World War II veteran that flew a B-17 flying fortress and carried out bombing raids over Nazi Germany.

Resident appreciates Main Street beautification efforts

Reader has fond memories of cruising in Campbellsville
Wow! Just when I thought Campbellsville was finally making strides for improvement and actually growing,
I read the article “Cruising causes concerns for residents.”
Really?
I grew up with cruising. Every Friday and Saturday night we all looked forward to going to town and seeing our friends and showing off our cars. There was no trouble. A policeman was usually patrolling the area.
The only time there was any trouble was away from town, not in town.
