SaVannah Rash, Taylor County Middle School sixth grader, won first place in the Abraham Lincoln Speech Contest on Saturday.
Rash will receive reserved seating at the Bicentennial Celebration on Tuesday, Feb. 12. Featured invited guests include President George W. Bush, First Lady Laura Bush, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne, Gov. Steven L. Beshear, Pulitzer-Prize-winner Doris Kearns Goodwin, and actor Sam Waterston from Law & Order.
Music will be provided by the Saxton Cornet Band and the American Spiritual Ensemble.

Campbellsville University will host its annual Valentine pageant tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. in The Gheens Recital Hall of Gosser Fine Arts Center.
Nine students will be representing CU, their organization and the ONE campaign, a nationwide organization that seeks to help eliminate poverty, as they vie for the title of 2008 CU Valentine queen.
The pageant is sponsored by the Student Government Association, and the SGA asks that individuals show their support through attendance and by bringing a non-perishable canned good for the ONE campaign.

The Student Technology Leadership Program at Campbellsville High School is headed to state competition with its project "How to Use PDAs (personal digital assistants) in the Middle School."
DJ Foley, Jason Rainwater and Alex Quinn shared with other STLPs from Region 6 how they have set up the PDAs for wireless Internet access, word processing and data sheets.
The Dell Axim PDAs have keyboards that allow students to easily create files that can be worked on at home and at school.
