Every church has one and mine is no exception - a matriarch or mother of the church.
It's not a title or position someone campaigns for or is appointed to, but it's a role someone becomes by virtue of her love and faith and selfless faithfulness.
In my church, that would be a tiny pipsqueak named Betty Santana. I always tell Betty that the reason I like her so much is because I tower over her. The truth is, even though she's only about 4-foot-9 or so, she towers over everyone at my church, me included.

Staff Report
John Hansford and Matthew Morrell of Campbellsville along with three members of River of Life Church in Springfield are leaving tomorrow for a mission trip to a village in Tanzania, East Africa.
Hansford and his wife, Candace, lived in Tanzania for about six months before coming to Campbellsville.
"They just don't have the resources there to accomplish what they need," Candace Hansford said. "So we partner with the local pastor there to help provide what the Lord lays on his heart."

Where are men and women - young and old - who are strong and courageous? Men and women who do not want to be dismayed - shaken by the storms and conflicts of life, but strong enough in character to stand for what God says is right and true? Men and women who know God, believe God and are going to get a grip on God and everything he has for them in this life.
Joshua was strong and courageous. See what made him that way.

The stands at Taylor County High School's football stadium were packed with those who had come to praise God. Evangelist Rick Gage was in Campbellsville through last night to conduct his South Central Kentucky Go Tell Crusade. For more than a decade, Gage has been filling high school football stadiums with Billy Graham-style crusades in small communities. For more information about Gage's ministry, visit www.gotellcrusades.com.

The other day I got an e-mail from Nancy Kennedy. That's Nancy B. Kennedy from Hopewell, N.J.
Years ago, she and I both wrote articles for the same magazine group - I wrote humor stories and she wrote about finance, and readers often got us mixed up. I told her once that I thought about writing a humorous finance article and really confusing things.
We became acquainted when either the magazines' business office or the IRS mixed up our 1099s.

Twenty years ago, Asbury United Methodist Church could have held most of its services in one of its members' living rooms as the church rarely had more than 10 people at a service.
Today, the church at 9600 New Columbia Road on the Adair-Taylor county line, is a thriving faith community of more than 220 members. Weekly attendance averages more than 100.
And on Sunday, the church will host a special service that celebrates "105 years in ministry."
