Annual candle lighting ceremony is Dec. 9
The annual Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 9.
The U.S. Senate has, for several years, joined in the Worldwide Candle Lighting remembrance by unanimously passing resolutions at the request of the Compassionate Friends, declaring the second Sunday in December of each year as National Children's Memorial Day.

'Holiday Hero' blood drive is Dec. 7
This year's American Red Cross' annual "Holiday Hero" blood drive will be special for many blood donors in the Campbellsville area.
On hand will be military service personnel who have served in Iraq and the Middle East. This will be a chance for civic-minded blood donors to come and thank those individuals for their service.
By donating blood, you have the potential to help save up to three lives this holiday season.
The holiday blood drive will be Friday, Dec. 7 from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Campbellsville National Guard Armory.

CU to host annual 'Tapestry' concert tomorrow
Campbellsville University's School of Music will ring in the Christmas season with its fourth annual "Christmas Tapestry" concert on Friday, Nov. 30.
The program will begin at 7 p.m. in the university's Ransdell Chapel.
The concert will feature a wide variety of the school's ensembles performing secular and sacred music of the season.
The Jazz Ensemble, the University Orchestra, the Chamber Choir and the School of Music Festival Choir will be featured, as well as several other smaller ensembles.

Painting to be raffled Saturday
The Adair County High School Class of 1994 Craig's Classmates Relay for Life Team is selling chances to win a painting of the Columbia Courthouse by local artist Trena Corbin.
Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. The drawing will be Saturday at Christmas in Columbia.
Proceeds from ticket sales will go to Relay for Life in memory of Craig Hare and in honor of Jamie Bennett.
The painting can be viewed at Sheila's Country Junction at 206 Public Square in Columbia.

Annual Woman's Club Christmas home tour is Sunday
It's an opportunity to see inside some of Campbellsville's most beautiful homes. Whether the homes are large or small, with simple decor or lavish furnishings, each will have something special to offer viewers this Christmas season.
Campbellsville Woman's Club will host the annual Christmas Home Tour this Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. The event serves as the club's main fundraiser for scholarships for two local students. President Roberta Moore says she would like for the club to be able to offer four scholarships.

Saturday is World AIDS Day
Saturday is World AIDS Day, a day to increase awareness about HIV/AIDS, to fight prejudice, improve education and to remind people that HIV has not gone away.
It is also a day to remember those infected and affected with HIV/AIDS and to memorialize the many loved ones who have passed away.

Toys for Kids plans fundraisers
The Campbellsville-Taylor County Fire Department has three fundraisers planned to collect money and toys for its "Toys for Kids" program.
The first event, the annual "Toys for Kids" chili cook-off, was Nov. 17.
The second event, the 11th annual "Toys for Kids" dance, will be Saturday, Dec. 1 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the American Legion. Admission is $5.
The last event, the "Toys for Kids" celebrity auction, is planned for Thursday, Dec. 6 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Carson-Newman VP to speak at convocation
Dr. Walter Crouch, vice president for church relations and the director of the Norton Institute for Congregational Health at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn., will speak at Campbellsville University's chapel/convocation at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28 at the Ransdell Chapel.
The address is free and open to the public.
Crouch has served at Carson-Newman since 1998 when he became an assistant professor, teaching Old and New Testament, and other Christian studies classes. He remains a professor today.

Health Department offers free rat bait
Taylor County Health Department will be giving away free rat bait Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the County Road Garage on Pleasant Drive. The garage is located across from UPS.

In Kentucky, there are more than 970 children in out-of-home care and awaiting public adoption. There are a total of 2,042 children who can't be reunited with families due to abuse, neglect and other safety and welfare issues.
